Based on Louisa May Alcott’s own family experiences (and novel), LITTLE WOMEN, follows the adventures of Jo, Meg, Beth and Amy March as they grow up in Civil War America. The beloved story of the March sisters is timeless and deals with issues as relevant today as when they were written. Now, this wonderful narrative has been brought to life as an exhilarating new musical filled with glorious music, dancing and heart. LITTLE WOMEN embodies the complete theatrical experience, guaranteeing a night filled with laughter, tears, and a lifting of the spirit. This powerful score soars with the sounds of personal discovery, heartache and hope — the sounds of a young America finding its voice. In years to come, we are sure that hundreds of productions by schools and theatres throughout the world will make this stage adaptation of the American classic novel a classic musical theatre treasure in its own right.

Set in Atlanta, Georgia at an NAACP Youth Conference, this dramatic play with music depicts the journey of a woman’s inner struggle for self-identify and racial equality. This piece follows Ms. Horne from her childhood in the 1920’s Jim Crow South, through her early career in Hollywood, to her triumphant civil rights stand at the 1963 March on Washington. This powerful one woman show, performed by Wendi Joy Franklin, is a must see! Hosted by Board Member Charlie Mae Smith.

Why would any theatre company want to revive such a period piece?… The answers are simple: The script is fantastic, the music is wonderful, and the characters are so vivid they still speak to us today. Curiously enough, the eponymous song of the show that is the most famous now sounds the most dated. Lyric Stage has opted to keep the 1979 era to validate the Disco beats in the score.

They’re Playing Our Song plays at the Irving Arts Center, 3333 North MacArthur Boulevard, Irving, TX on Thursday, February 21st at 8:00 PM.

The Dead Can Speak! Are You Listening?

Purgatory is defined in the dictionary as: A place or state of suffering inhabited by the souls of sinners who are expiating their sins before going to heaven. Imagine going through life shunned by society, enduring drug addiction, homelessness, or prostitution, just hoping the afterlife turns out better than this one. In life, many saints were forgiving of and welcomed with open arms, street people and even tax collectors! Even Jesus told a crucified thief he’d go to heaven, so surely heaven will accept you right? Then you die and find you’re a reject in purgatory as well. Heaven Forbid (s)! is an award winning series of comic monologues and sketches examining multiculturalism, identity, and the similarities between outcasts and those who try to ignore them. It’s comedy from beyond!

Heaven Forbid(s)! is written by and performed by Marco Rodriguez and Rhianna Mack. Heaven Forbid(s)! will perform its final four performances in the DFW area Friday March 7 at 8:00 PM, Sunday March 9 at 5:00 PM, Wednesday March 12 at 7:30 PM and Friday March 14 at 8:00 PM in the Stone Cottage Theater in Addison.
Dante: Inferno

Adapted to the stage by Alejandro de la Costa*
With a new translation by Mark-Brian Sonna*

“Abandon all Hope, ye who enter here.”

The classic book by Dante Alighieri is considered one of the greatest pieces of literature. Dante tells the story of his guided journey into the deep recesses of hell. As he voyages through each circle, going deeper into the earth, he encounters a myriad of damned souls; and as he witnesses their ghastly punishments he learns the cause of their torment. As he travels further he also encounters obstacles that might trap him for an eternity. This adaptation for the stage presents this classic story in a new light, with extensive choreography, and with modernized language, making it accessible to those who have only heard of the book. Alejandro de la Costa’s adaptation captures the raw intensity, violence, sexuality, etc. that has stunned readers for hundreds of years. The actors in this production through the use of their bodies become the beasts, the devils, the sinners, and the towering bodies and rivers of flesh that Dante encounters. Because of the graphic nature of the play you must be 18 or older to attend.

This is very much an ensemble piece: the actors seldom ever leaving the stage. Outside of the roles of Virgil and Dante, the other 6 performers must be able to play at least 10 different characters each be it, devils, spirits, historical figures, etc. These 6 performers must be physically fit and be able to do extensive movement:

Virgil: 51+ year old man.
Dante: 35 year old man.
Man 1: Lion, Arch, lost soul, Horace, Paolo, etc.
Man 2: Arch, lost soul, Charon, Tristan, Francesca’s husband, etc.
Man 3: Arch, lost soul, Homer. Minos, etc.
Woman 1: Leopard, arch, lost soul, Electra, Francesca, etc.
Woman 2: She-wolf, arch, lost soul, Camilla, Helen of Troy, etc.
Woman 3: arch, lost soul, Lavinia, Cleopatra, etc.

The auditions will consist of a 2 minute monologue of your choice and readings from the script which will be emailed to the actors a week prior to the audition.

Auditions will be:

Sunday February 24 from noon to 4 PM
Monday, February 25, from 7 to 10 PM
Tuesday, February 26 from at 7 to 8:30 PM with callback immediately following.

Auditions will be held at our rehearsal space located at 8204 Elmbrook #305M, Dallas, TX 75247.

To schedule an appointment time please email info@Mark-BrianSonna.com or call 214-477-4942. More information about this show can be found at www.MBSProductions.net.
