Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script and two songs, one ballad and one up-tempo.

Synopsis: Freely adapted from the novel by Robert Louis Stevenson, excitement runs high in this musical version of a favorite childhood adventure story. Stevenson’s thrilling tale of pirates, treasure maps, mutiny on the high seas and pieces of eight follows Jim Hawkins, an ordinary youth, drawn into a dangerous race for buried treasure against the treacherous Long John Silver. As the author himself wrote, “If this don’t fetch the kids, why, they have gone rotten since my day.”

Murder, greed, corruption, violence, exploitation, adultery and treachery – the cornerstones of the sultry and alluring Broadway musical hit Chicago. Set in Atlanta, Georgia at an NAACP Youth Conference, this dramatic play with music depicts the journey of a woman’s inner struggle for self-identify and racial equality. This piece follows Ms. Horne from her childhood in the 1920’s Jim Crow South, through her early career in Hollywood, to her triumphant civil rights stand at the 1963 March on Washington. This powerful one woman show, performed by Wendi Joy Franklin, is a must see! Hosted by Board Member Charlie Mae Smith.

Producer and actor Mark-Brian Sonna has written a new review of Lyric Stage’s production of They’re Playing Our Song for Pegasus News.

Why would any theatre company want to revive such a period piece?… The answers are simple: The script is fantastic, the music is wonderful, and the characters are so vivid they still speak to us today. Curiously enough, the eponymous song of the show that is the most famous now sounds the most dated. Lyric Stage has opted to keep the 1979 era to validate the Disco beats in the score.

The Collin Theatre Center in Plano, TX continues their 2007-2008 season with Li’’l Abner, a musical cartoon by Gene DePaul and Johnny Mercer with Norman Panama and Melvin Frank based on the comic strip characters created by Al Capp. When residents of Dogpatch, USA are notified by the government that they must evacuate, they try to persuade the government that their town is worth saving. Meanwhile, Earthquake McGoon wants to marry Daisy Mae; Daisy Mae wants to marry and Li’l Abner just wants to go fishing. A classic musical comedy that is appropriate for the all ages. Directed by Brad Baker and Mark Mullino with choreography by Paula Morelan.

Li’l Abner will be presented by the Collin Theatre Center at Collin College, in the John Anthony Theatre, 2800 E. Spring Creek Parkway, Plano 75074. Performances are February 28-29, March 1, 5-8 at 8 p.m., with matinees on March 2, 8-9 at 2:15 p.m. Tickets are $15 for General Admission, $10 for Students and Senior Citizens (55+).
