From the moment Alice falls down a rabbit hole into the zany world of Wonderland, the fun never stops. You’ll meet talking birds and animals, singing flowers, hilariously comic kings and queens . . . and find yourself attending a race where the contestants run in circles getting nowhere and everybody wins! There’s a frantic tea party ruled over by the Mad Hatter; and a funny scene where Alice must deal with a pepper-sneezing Duchess and a baby that turns into a pig! The finale has Alice at the trial of the Knave of Hearts for stealing tarts; and she is suddenly the accused. Here’s a modern view of a classic where nonsense makes good sense. And Alice even finds a new friend: the watch-carrying White Rabbit.

PLUS! Intermission Tea Party with the Characters

Have Tea and Cakes with Alice and her friends. Make your reservations early, there are only 30 seats. Don’t be late for this very important date!

Directions

From Dallas (I-30):
Take I-30 West. After passing the Six Flags Exit, start watching the signs, looking for the Cooper Street exit. Make a left turn on Cooper (South). You will pass Division St., Abram St., and the next street is UTA Blvd. Continue South for 1/2 a block and turn right into the Fine Arts parking lot. Open parking begins after 5:00pm.

From Dallas (I-20):
Take I-20 West. After passing Highway 360, it’s 3 more exits. Exit Cooper Street, take a right at the light, and continue going North about 5 miles. These are the major streets you will pass: Arbrook, Mayfield, Arkansas, Pioneer Pkwy, Park Row, Mitchell. The street after Mitchell is Nedderman Drive. Take a left on Nedderman, winding around to a 4-way stop. Pass the stop sign, down 1/2 a block and turn right. It will be your first right. This goes between 2 buildings and ends in our parking lot. We are the building facing the parking lot on the south.

From Fort Worth (I-30 or I-20):
Go East to Cooper Street Exit. Once you find Cooper Street follow the above directions for I-30 or I-20, depending on which way you travel.

Once you have found our building and parking lot, there is a sign above the sidewalk that says, “Fine Arts”. Enter through the door by the sign and take a right at the hallway. It comes out into a large hallway. Immediately to your left will be the Theatre Arts Office, Rm #144. On the right is the Studio Theatre, Rm #137, where our Studio productions are performed. To get to our Mainstage productions, take a left and go through the doors to the outside hallway. When you are outside, take a right and you will pass 2 sets of double doors that open up to the Mainstage box office and theatre.

Congratulations to FMPAT’s Column Award Nominees!

Barefoot in the Park

Jane Willingham, Michael Corolla, Lisa Schreiner and Matt Moore find love in FMPAT’s production of Barefoot in the Park.

After a six day honeymoon, a spanking new lawyer, who has just won his first case, and his young bride, who is pretty and full of life, move into their first apartment that she has chosen for them. But the difficulty is, in order to enjoy the charming character of this apartment, one has to climb six wheezing flights. And the apartment is absolutely bare of furniture, the paint job came out all wrong, the skylight leaks, there isn’t room for a double bed, and an outlandish gourmet who lives in a loft on the roof uses it and the window ledge as the only access to his padlocked premises. The situation is enough to break the heart and burst the lungs of any stylish young lawyer; and indeed it does, on the night he flatly refuses to join his wife in a barefoot walk through the snow in the park. She kicks him out, but he comes back not for reconciliation, but because he figures that since he’s paying the rent she should be the one to go. And, yet, Simon provides a happy ending for the couple.

Based on Louisa May Alcott’s own family experiences (and novel), LITTLE WOMEN, follows the adventures of Jo, Meg, Beth and Amy March as they grow up in Civil War America. The beloved story of the March sisters is timeless and deals with issues as relevant today as when they were written. Now, this wonderful narrative has been brought to life as an exhilarating new musical filled with glorious music, dancing and heart. LITTLE WOMEN embodies the complete theatrical experience, guaranteeing a night filled with laughter, tears, and a lifting of the spirit. This powerful score soars with the sounds of personal discovery, heartache and hope — the sounds of a young America finding its voice. In years to come, we are sure that hundreds of productions by schools and theatres throughout the world will make this stage adaptation of the American classic novel a classic musical theatre treasure in its own right.

Murder, greed, corruption, violence, exploitation, adultery and treachery – the cornerstones of the sultry and alluring Broadway musical hit Chicago. Based on the 1926 play by the same name, Chicago is the story of seductive nightclub dancer Roxie Hart who finds that the road to fame can be a trail of blood. Throw in a cunning lawyer and a bit of “razzle-dazzle” and Roxie goes from cold hearted killer to the toast of the town. The ‘20s come roaring back with a vengeance when the Tony Award winning hit musical Chicago returns to the Bass Performance Hall.

This show is suitable for most audiences. Sexy language, costumes and choreography. Parental guidance is recommended.

Set in Atlanta, Georgia at an NAACP Youth Conference, this dramatic play with music depicts the journey of a woman’s inner struggle for self-identify and racial equality. This piece follows Ms. Horne from her childhood in the 1920’s Jim Crow South, through her early career in Hollywood, to her triumphant civil rights stand at the 1963 March on Washington. This powerful one woman show, performed by Wendi Joy Franklin, is a must see! Hosted by Board Member Charlie Mae Smith.

Why would any theatre company want to revive such a period piece?… The answers are simple: The script is fantastic, the music is wonderful, and the characters are so vivid they still speak to us today. Curiously enough, the eponymous song of the show that is the most famous now sounds the most dated. Lyric Stage has opted to keep the 1979 era to validate the Disco beats in the score.

To read the entire review, visit Pegasus News.

They’re Playing Our Song plays at the Irving Arts Center, 3333 North MacArthur Boulevard, Irving, TX on Thursday, February 21st at 8:00 PM.
